Catalan Conference

In early November 2010 we worked in Barcelona, so here's a Spanish joke.

Hay tres clases de personas:
There are three kinds of people:
las que saben contar y las que no.
those who know how to count, and those who don't.

But seriously, we were in Catalonia to stage PricewaterhouseCoopers' Global Tax Symposium Europe: 2010 - The Forum for Tax Directors - Tax in a world of change - what's on your agenda?. The venue was the new Hotel W.  Attendees had registered in advance using an online registration site - designed and produced by us.

We were keen to reflect the ultra modern design of the building, which uses lighting to create impressive effects. So Brian devised a set that featured internally lit columns with moving head lights and a variety of gobos. This meant we could project animated lighting effects inside the columns. In addition, the lecterns had plasma screens built into the front panel, which could show abstract patterns or text generated out of PowerPoint.

We supplied a full AV solution for Plenary and Workshop sessions - set, stage, lighting, sound, projection, graphics, banners, signage and video - live and recorded.  Using our Final Cut Pro portable edit suite onsite, Chris Reddall created opening, incidental and closing videos.

We were delighted to receive the many positive comments about the look and feel of the whole event.

A challenge in Budapest!

A challenge in Budapest!

In October, we provided a full AV solution for PricewaterhouseCoopers' Global Transfer Pricing Conference 2010 - The Winds of Change.  This was held over a five day period at the Corinthia Grand Hotel, Budapest.  Attendees registered via the registration website we created a few months earlier.

Apart from the toxic sludge spill, our first challenge was to get the equipment into the hotel! Budapest does not allow large, articulated lorries into the city, so we had to cross load everything onto smaller vehicles and then drive to the venue.  A height restriction meant  that we had to design the set using a maximum of three metre high panels - these were joined together in the main room to create the full height backdrop.

A crew of 20 rigged and operated set, stage, lighting, sound, projection, graphics and video. In addition, we supplied technical equipment and support to a total of 154 workshops and other meetings, held outside of the main room.

Using our three Sony XDCAM HD cameras we recorded the plenary sessions and workshops, as well as transmitting live video to the screens.  Opening and closing videos were also edited on site. Those who were not able to attend are able to view the whole conference on the web, where audio and video is being streamed alongside relevant PowerPoint slides.

Hungarian is one of the most difficult languages in the world but we did learn to say "köszönöm" (thank you!).  A great experience and a successful project.

Interactive voting in Swansea

Interactive voting in Swansea

We supplied 150 interactive voting keypads  for the official launch of Software Alliance Wales at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea on 5 October 2010. The  aim of this organisation is to support innovation and growth amongst the ICT and Software Sector within the Convergence areas of Wales. Guest presenters from Apple, IBM and BT also used the keypads to gather audience opinion.
